Half-lap Joints for Glazing Bar Cassettes
The Copenstick TDL is designed specifically for the quick and efficient production of 90°Degs Half-lap joints for the use in Simulated Divided Light and Traditional Divided Light bars, window grills, and decretive cabinetry. Using Half-Lap joints, instead of individually mitered pieces results in a stronger and esthetically pleasing assembly. The Half-Lap joint consists of two parts. The vertical and horizontal pieces, which are, Half-Lapped, to produce the interlocking joint. Since the cut is the same regardless of profiles tooling and changeover cost is reduced.
The TDL has been built using the same construction quality as the other machines in the Copenstick range allowing for an array of joints to be cut with speed and precision, even fully profiled components can be processed without the fear of tear-out.
A high level of accuracy is attained due to the workpiece being milled on all three sides while remaining firmly clamped, this negates the need to rotate the workpiece during the machining cycle.

The basic machining process is as follows:
The workpiece to be jointed is placed on the support table and manually fed into the machine enclosure and through the adjustable self centring clamp, the workpiece can be positioned along a flip stop for accuracy, there are 2no. pneumatic clamps that hold down the material, these are activated via a foot pedal which also starts the machining cycle.
The pneumatic clamps now hold the workpiece in position and 2no. high speed spindle motors fitted with 45° cutters descend on both sides of the workpiece creating the V notch on opposing sides of the workpiece, then a further high speed spindle motor fitted with a straight cutter will cut across the workpiece at exactly half the material depth.
The process having been completed will automatically return the machine to the start position ready for the next cut via the foot pedal control.
